Charlotte Region

Charlotte is a major city and commercial hub in North Carolina. Its modern city center (Uptown) is home to the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the South, and hands-on science displays at Discovery Place. Uptown is also known for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which celebrates the sport of auto racing through interactive exhibits and films.

Charleston Region

Charleston boasts innovative restaurants, interesting shops, contemporary art galleries, and the world-class Spoleto Festival USA. History pervades almost every aspect of the Holy City, from the majestic homes-turned-museums to the landmarks that promote the city’s role in United States history. Visit Fort Sumter to learn about the Civil War, Middleton Place to hear stories about the plantation owners and the enslaved Africans who worked for them, and Emanuel AME Church to see where Martin Luther King Jr. once delivered a historic speech. Shop for locally made goods at the Charleston City Market where you’ll find sweetgrass baskets woven in traditional Gullah design, among other unique souvenirs. Raleigh Region

Raleigh, as with most state capitals, is the place in North Carolina to visit state museums, the Executive Mansion and the Capitol building mostly for free. Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle, with Durham and Chapel Hill. Founded right after the Revolutionary War and named for Sir Walter Raleigh, there’s plenty to do and see in this bustling university city plus a selection of great restaurants and entertainment.

Greenville Region

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina’s Upcountry, Greenville is conveniently located halfway between Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.
